Iloilo city: The Department of Trade and Industry in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) launched its most significant trade expo at SM City in Iloilo City, featuring a remarkable array of products from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City.

According to Philippines News Agency, the five-day event, titled 'Treasures of Region 12: A Christmas Trade Expo in Western Visayas,' highlights an impressive assortment of chocolates, coffee, handicrafts, wearables, handwoven T'nalak, and artisanal crafts. The expo also celebrates the region's rich cultural heritage through vibrant performances, live product demonstrations, and various pocket events.

DTI-12 Director Florita Gabunales emphasized the expo as a culmination of a decade's worth of dedication and a pioneering vision for MSMEs in the region. She noted that the event has become one of the most anticipated trade expos in the country. Gabunales encouraged the Ilonggos to experience the unique offerings of the region firsthand and mentioned that local government units have dedicated booths to showcase their investment opportunities, culture, attractions, and experiences.

DTI Assistant Secretary Leonila Baluyut praised DTI-12 for their initiative, describing trade fairs and exhibits as 'cornerstones' of the department's strategy. She highlighted the importance of such events in market testing, product development, and establishing vital linkages, aiming to nurture world-class Filipino entrepreneurs and globally competitive Philippine products. Baluyut urged MSMEs to seize the opportunity provided by the expo to network with potential buyers, customers, and partners, encouraging them to grow their businesses by learning and embracing new possibilities.

Gabunales further revealed the goal to generate around PHP10 million from the expo and expressed hope for establishing business-to-business linkages, gathering bulk orders, and promoting the excellent quality coffee of Sultan Kudarat.
