Makati city: The government is intensifying efforts to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) leverage technological innovation to scale operations and access global markets. Speaking at the launch of the artificial intelligence (AI) and Scale-up Center at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) office in Makati City, Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque vowed to enhance digitalization and internet connectivity even in far-flung areas to bolster small businesses.

According to Philippines News Agency, Roque said the newly established facility will provide entrepreneurs the venue to learn and upgrade their skills. "For small and medium [enterprises], they really should not be scared of AI, but they should use AI as a driver for them to succeed," she said. "We are building the infrastructure for them to become thriving businesses and to have high-quality jobs, strategic investments, and world-class products and services."

Roque stated that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. mandated the department to enable small businesses to maximize AI, ensuring their long-term growth and international competitiveness. "Under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Philippines is transforming into a highly competitive global hub for trade, digital enterprise, and innovation," she added.

At the same event, Converge ICT Solutions chief executive officer Dennis Anthony Uy underscored the need for local enterprises to embrace AI to unlock global opportunities. "To transform our MSMEs, we must have infrastructure for AI readiness, connectivity, and upskill our people," Uy said. "Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept. It is already present-day, but at a new scale of efficiency and competitiveness."

Uy warned that business owners who fail to adapt risk being left behind. "If you have not learned AI, (then) AI will replace you," he said, citing the urgency of continuous upskilling to meet technological changes.
