Manila: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has extended the voluntary registration for the E-Commerce Philippine Trustmark until December 31, 2026, to provide more online businesses with the opportunity to secure this vital certification.
According to Philippines News Agency, about 18,400 businesses have applied for the Trustmark so far, as stated by DTI Secretary Cristina Roque during an interview on Monday. Roque also mentioned that the policy will undergo a review ahead of the newly set deadline. In addition, DTI is actively assessing how other countries regulate online business registration to enhance local policies.
Initially, DTI had set the voluntary Trustmark registration deadline for September 30 of this year but decided to extend it to the end of 2026 due to heightened demand from businesses seeking more time. Roque emphasized that the Trustmark is designed not as a regulatory burden but as a protective tool for legitimate enterprises against scammers who undermine consumer confidence. The goal is to simplify the process for consumers to identify and trust legitimate sellers, allowing entrepreneurs to focus on growing their businesses.
DTI officials have noted that major players like TikTok, Lazada, and Shopee have already been issued the Trustmark badges. Under Republic Act 11967, also known as the Internet Transactions Act of 2023, and the DTI's Department Administrative Order 25-07, businesses with an online presence are mandated to apply for the badge to ensure transaction security for both sellers and consumers.
