Negros oriental: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Oriental called on the public to notify them of businesses taking advantage of the impact of Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) to hike commodity prices.

According to Philippines News Agency, Krystle Jade Bato, spokesperson for DTI-Negros Oriental, stated that they have been tracking consumer goods prices for two days after receiving reports of alleged price surges. Bato mentioned that, as of Tuesday, no official complaints have been lodged against any business establishment for raising the prices of essential items.

Bato also reported that there have been observations of people stockpiling food, batteries, flashlights, and similar items in anticipation of the typhoon. Despite this, she assured that there is no shortage of essential goods, even amidst the heightened urgency in advance purchases.

A province-wide monitoring effort is ongoing, even after the storm has passed, as another weather disturbance poses a threat to the country. The DTI is urging people to remain calm and avoid panic buying during disasters or adverse weather conditions, as the agency ensures there is an adequate supply of basic commodities and other essentials.
