Dumaguete water firm assures supply amid low power voltage

Metro Dumaguete Water (MDW) on Wednesday reassured its clients served by seven pumping stations here of uninterrupted water supply amid an unstable electrical supply or low voltage by the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II (NORECO II).

Current intermittent water interruptions are in areas served by Pumping Stations 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 18, and 2A.

“There could be less pressure at certain times of the day due to the unstable power, but we assure our clients of uninterrupted service because all of these pumping stations have their own generator sets,” said Kate Young Ricardo, MDW spokesperson, in an interview with the Philippine News Agency.

“The pumps are connected to NORECO II and what we are doing right now is we are communicating with them to see how we can work together in addressing that because once a brownout or low voltage occurs, we need to switch to our gen-sets so there would be brief interruption,” she added.

MDW Chief Operating Officer Angelo David Berba also assured clients of ample supply during the summer months as it is sourcing water from a watershed in nearby Valencia town.

Berba said the firm is also spending millions of pesos in the upgrading of the water system here, following their assumption of operations from the previous water district.

The MDW is a joint venture between Metro Pacific Water (MPW) and Dumaguete City Water District (DCWD).

Meanwhile, the MDW, in partnership with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)-Dumaguete, is celebrating the 2022 World Water Day with a photo exhibit from March 22 to April 5 to encourage the public to help conserve water.

The photo exhibit kicked off on Tuesday at the local Robinsons Place shopping mall here and features winning entries of a photo contest held last year and early this year.
