MANILA– At least three Senate leaders are scheduled to meet President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III said.
In an interview with reporters, Sotto said President Duterte summoned him, Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III and Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon.
It was not clear where the meeting will take place.
Sotto was privy on the details but said that it must be something “heavy”.
Asked if he thinks the issue on PHP6.4 billion worth of shabu from China that ended up in two warehouses in Valenzuela City last May will be tackled, he said: It might.
This meeting comes a day after the Senate investigation on the issue where senators alleged corruption and incompetence among Bureau of Customs (BOC) officials and employees.
The House of Representatives (HOR) is currently holding its own investigation into the same issue.
On May 30, the illegal shipment was discovered when members of the BOC and the National Bureau of Investigation personnel raided a warehouse in Valenzuela City, based on a tip coming from their Chinese counterparts.
The consignee of the subject cargo carrying the shabu was identified as EMT Trading.
