Dolores: The local government of Dolores, Eastern Samar, recently made a significant stride towards improving educational access by distributing 100 bicycles to high school students from remote villages. The initiative aims to support students who face long commutes on foot to attend school, enhancing their ability to pursue education despite logistical challenges.

According to Philippines News Agency, the beneficiaries of this initiative, dubbed 'Pedal Para han Kabubwason' (Pedal for the Future), are primarily students from Barangay Hinolaso and surrounding areas. These students endure lengthy daily walks to reach Hinolaso National High School, as transportation options are scant in their region. The village of Barangay Hinolaso is situated over 30 kilometers from the nearest national highway, posing a significant hurdle for students striving to continue their education.

The bicycle distribution program is poised to expand with the backing of Eastern Samar Lone District Representative Christopher Sheen Gonzales and 4Ps Party-list Representative Marcelino Libanan. Both officials have pledged to contribute additional bicycles to further support the students' educational journeys.

Mayor Zaldy Carpeso underscored the importance of education and the role of the local government in removing barriers such as poverty and distance. He emphasized that no child should be denied education due to these factors and expressed his commitment to aiding students in achieving their academic aspirations. During the distribution event, Carpeso addressed the students and parents, encouraging them to prioritize education and assuring them of his continued support.

The bicycles, as noted by Carpeso, represent more than just transportation; they are a testament to the local government's belief in the potential of its youth. The initiative is designed to alleviate the physical burden of travel, thereby providing students with better opportunities to focus on their studies and pursue their dreams.
