Manila: Typhoon Emong is poised to make its second landfall in Ilocos Sur or the northern portion of La Union, with Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4 raised in several areas, according to the weather bureau's 5 a.m. bulletin. According to Philippines News Agency, Emong initially made landfall on Thursday night over Agno in Pangasinan. Areas under Signal No. 4, including the southwestern portion of Ilocos Sur and the northern and central portions of La Union, are expected to experience typhoon-force winds. Signal No. 3 is in effect for regions anticipating storm-force winds, such as the southern portion of Ilocos Norte, the rest of Ilocos Sur, and parts of La Union, among others.

Gale-force winds are forecasted for areas under Signal No. 2, encompassing the rest of Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, and the northern portion of Zambales, among others. Meanwhile, Signal No. 1 has been issued for regions expected to experience strong winds, including parts of Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya, to name a few.

The typhoon is enhancing the southwest monsoon, causing strong to gale-force gusts across Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Mimaropa, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao. PAGASA has warned of a moderate to high risk of life-threatening storm surges with peak heights of 1.0 to 3.0 meters over low-lying coastal areas, including Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and mainland Cagayan.

A gale warning is active over the seaboards of northern Luzon and the western seaboards of central and southern Luzon. Additionally, heavy rains are expected in various areas, including Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, and other provinces, due to Emong and the southwest monsoon.
