Ex-DPWH Exec Hernandez to Surrender Luxury Cars – ICI Chair

Taguig city: A dismissed official of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office will surrender some of his luxury vehicles, Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) chairperson Andres Reyes Jr. said on Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, former DPWH assistant engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez made the commitment when he attended the first ICI hearing into the anomalous flood control projects. Reyes stated that Hernandez is voluntarily surrendering one of his luxury vehicles to the Commission, with more expected to follow, as a sign of good faith and willingness to cooperate.

Hernandez initially surrendered a black GMC Yukon Denali sports utility vehicle, reportedly valued at PHP16 million in the Philippines. He is also anticipated to hand over a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. During the ICI inquiry, Reyes noted that Hernandez answered all questions freely and voluntarily, demonstrating full cooperation.

On September 18, the ICI issued a subpoena summoning Hernandez to attend the first hearing regarding the flood control controversy. Hernandez is currently under the Senate's custody in Pasay City after being cited in contempt due to conflicting statements. His alleged extravagant lifestyle included visiting casinos and owning several luxury cars despite having a monthly salary of PHP70,000.
