Gen. Santos City: A man impersonating a police officer was arrested Monday afternoon inside the headquarters of the city police office. Col. Nicomedes Olaivar Jr., the city police director, identified the suspect as 'Eddie,' who was spotted in a police bush coat uniform at the parking area of Camp Fermin Lira Jr. around 3 p.m. According to Philippines News Agency, police officers became suspicious as the suspect's uniform did not match the official attire for the day. Upon questioning, the man admitted he was not a police officer and revealed that he had purchased the uniform, complete with decorative medals and insignias, from an online store. The suspect, who was unarmed at the time, was immediately taken into custody. Olaivar stated that the man was charged with usurpation of authority and illegal use of uniforms and insignias under the Revised Penal Code. Some officers speculated that the suspect might be mentally unstable or a frustrated police aspirant.
