Tacloban: The parents of the three students killed in the June 22 shooting incident at the San Jose National High School here expressed gratitude after receiving permanent housing from the government through the National Housing Authority (NHA).

According to Philippines News Agency, the beneficiaries were the families of Chris Lorenz Fabian, Ayessa Nicole Dazo, and Joyancee Separa, who died in the shooting inside the school campus on June 22. Erbea and Christopher Fabian, parents of Chris Lorenz, thanked the government for providing them with a place they can finally call their own.

"We are grateful to the NHA. Now, we have our own house. We are also thankful for all the help from the government extended to us," the couple said in an interview Thursday. The housing units are located at the Tacloban Housing Project in Barangay 103, Palanog, Tacloban City, an NHA-developed resettlement site.

The NHA said the housing assistance was granted under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as part of the government's continuing support for the bereaved families following the tragedy. Jennelyn Badoria, mother of Joyancee, said they are happy to receive the new house inside a safe zone.

"We are happy that we have a new house. The house is closer to the burial place of my child," Badoria said. The NHA assured the beneficiaries that government assistance would continue.

Vice Mayor Raymund Romualdez said the city government remains committed to ensuring that a similar tragedy will not happen again while continuing to assist the affected families. He acknowledged that no amount of assistance could ease the pain of losing a child but expressed hope that the new homes would provide the families with comfort and security.

"I hope the four corners of your new home grant you happiness and safety. I know this new house is not enough, but it could help," Romualdez added. Before the turnover, the NHA assessed the families' housing conditions to determine the appropriate assistance under its existing housing programs.

The June 22 shooting claimed the lives of Fabian, 15; Dazo, 14; and Separa, 15, and injured 20 other students. The incident prompted a multi-agency government response that included psychosocial interventions, financial assistance, housing support, and strengthened security measures in schools.
