Quezon city: As the nation marks 40 years since the historic bloodless and peaceful revolution in 1986, the People Power 40 Kick-Off Concert, scheduled for Feb. 21 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle, aims to inspire and intensify the ongoing fight against corruption.
According to Philippines News Agency, the QC government announced in a news release Wednesday that it is 'all-systems go' for the concert themed 'Awit at Aksyon Kontra Korapsyon' (Song and Action Against Corruption), with the pre-show beginning at 4 p.m., and the main concert starting at 6 p.m. The event is organized by Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) and Kaya Natin!
The organizers stated that the concert seeks to remind Filipinos that the unity and courage that restored the country's democracy in 1986 can today be channeled into the fight against corruption. The pre-show lineup features various artists including Madeline, Hey Moonshine, Stonefree, Chloe Redondo, Jkris Dantes, Crazy as Pinoy, TSN Drag, and Mz. Chronicles and DJ JhaiHo.
The main concert will be headlined by popular performers such as Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Rivermaya, Ice Seguerra, Ebe Dancel, Pio Balbuena, and stand-up comedians Alex Calleja and Red Ollero. They will be joined by Morobeats, Bea Binene, Elmo Magalona, Arkin Magalona, Earl Agustin, Chelsea Alley, and Over October, with special guests Ogie Diaz, Mama Loi Villarama, and Iza Calzado.
The organizers emphasized that People Power proved the Filipino people's ability to unite against injustice and demand accountability, and that this concert serves both as a tribute to that legacy and an encouragement for citizens, especially the youth, to continue advocating for transparency and good governance.
Meanwhile, the city government has issued an advisory urging motorists to expect slower traffic along Elliptical Road on Saturday due to the event at the Quezon Memorial Circle. Authorities from the Traffic and Transport Management Department, Department of Public Order and Safety, Task Force Disiplina, Quezon City Police District, and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will coordinate to manage traffic. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
