FEU-Diliman Triumphs Over Adamson University to Secure Seventh Win in UAAP Boys’ Basketball

Manila: Far Eastern University-Diliman (FEU-D) celebrated its seventh consecutive victory by defeating Adamson University, 84-65, in the UAAP Season 88 boys' basketball tournament held at Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The Baby Tamaraws continue to lead the team standings with an 8-1 record.

According to Philippines News Agency, Cabs Cabonilas, a standout contender for the Most Valuable Player title, shone for the Baby Tamaraws with an impressive performance, tallying 19 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and two blocks. Coach Mike Reyes emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, stating, "We constantly remind them that there is no sure win in the UAAP today. There is no sure win in seven games per round, that's what I always remind them."

In addition to Cabonilas, Marc Burgos added 18 points, with contributions from Sam Hall (11) and Khean Esperanza (9). JB Cagurungan and Alagaban each chipped in six points for FEU-D. On the opposing side, Jarl Artango led the Baby Falcons with 13 points, seven steals, three rebounds, and two assists, as Adamson suffered their fifth loss in nine games. Kevin Frogoso, Noah Bautista, and Chrys Gomez also made notable contributions to the Falcons' efforts.

Meanwhile, in the girls' division, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) secured a decisive victory against Ateneo, 146-36, claiming the second spot with a 3-1 record, just behind National University-Nazareth School (4-0). Indonesian center Koukou Talla was a key player for UST, delivering 27 points, 14 rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Pia Petalcorin added 18 points, four steals, and three rebounds to the defending champions' tally.

UST coach Arsenio Dysangco acknowledged room for improvement despite the commanding win. "We're not really happy with what happened today. We're still a work in progress and it's still early into the second round, so we have a lot of room for improvement," he commented. Contributions from Janice Oczon (17 points), Riri Perez (16), Lea Pinuela (14), Yuyi Capinpin (12), and Sandra Abrantes (11) completed the team's impressive showing.

As the tournament progresses, UST is set to face De La Salle Zobel on February 21, while Ateneo, currently at 0-4, looks to regroup during a 14-day break before their match against DLSZ on March 1.
