Fewer crimes in W. Visayas during May 9 polls

The Police Regional Office-Western Visayas (PRO-6) has reported lesser crimes in the region during the last May 9 polls compared to those recorded in the past two elections.

Data released on Tuesday showed only a total of 24 crimes were monitored on election day.

During the voting day in 2016, there were 125 crimes while in 2019, some 62 crimes were recorded.

Of this year’s total, only three incidents were among the eight focus crimes, which were crimes against persons and property, while in 2019, there were 12 and in 2016, there were 26 of such crimes on election day.

“There were no records of major and election-related violent incidents,” the PRO-6 said in a statement.

Brig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo, regional director of PRO-6, recognized the region’s police personnel for the peaceful security coverage in this year’s national and local elections.

On Monday, Dongbo awarded the Philippine National Police Efficiency Medal to 12 commissioned officers who led the various tasks to secure the May 9 elections.
