Rome: Philippine Ambassador to Italy Nathaniel Imperial extended his best wishes to Filipino runners set to participate in the 2026 Run Rome The Marathon on March 22. The ambassador's remarks came during a Thanksgiving Mass held for the athletes on Sunday, highlighting the role of sports in promoting unity, resilience, and national pride. According to Philippines News Agency, Imperial underscored the embassy's commitment to supporting the Filipino community in Italy, particularly in activities that encourage wellness, excellence, and cultural visibility. He cited the recognition of Filipino athletes on the Philippine Embassy in Rome's page, such as pole vaulter EJ Obiena and participants of the Southeast Asian Games, who bring honor to the nation. Imperial expressed his hopes for the Filipino runners, wishing them enjoyment and strength for the 42km race. The Mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Gilbert Quiqui of the Pedro Calungsod Filipino Community and saw attendance from the athletes' families and supporters . The Rome Marathon is anticipated to draw a record-breaking 36,000 runners from over 120 countries. Participants will traverse a 42.195 km course that showcases major Roman landmarks, including St. Peter's Basilica and the Spanish Steps.
