The Philippine Embassy in Beirut has advised Filipinos residing near Lebanon's southern border to evacuate amid tensions in the area. In an advisory dated Oct. 17, the embassy told Filipinos to avoid non-essential travel to south Lebanon. 'Due to the persistent tension in Lebanon's southern border posing a significant threat to the safety and security of civilian residents, the Philippine Embassy urges all Filipinos close to the border to evacuate preemptively to ensure their well-being and security,' it said. The embassy urged Filipinos to contact them at +961 70 858 086 or the Migrant Workers Office at +961 79 110 729 to register and update their situation. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) earlier confirmed that 'less than 100 Filipinos' living in northern Israel, which borders south Lebanon, have also been evacuated amid the rocket strikes of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. 'Sa north malapit sa Lebanon may kaunting Pilipino doon less than a hundred. Pina-evacuate na rin kasi umuulan na ng rockets ng Hezbollah, terror organization sa Lebanon (In the north part of Israel near Lebanon, there are a few Filipinos living, less than a hundred of them. They were told to evacuate because rockets were being fired by the Hezbollah)," DFA Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega said in a radio interview Tuesday night.
