Baguio: Two cities in the Cordillera Administrative Region recorded firecracker-related incidents around the New Year despite intensified information campaigns on the dangers of fireworks and pyrotechnics. In Baguio City, two men were treated at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center after suffering minor burns and abrasions when firecracker debris fell on them while watching fireworks near their home in San Carlos Heights. No other incidents were reported in the city.

According to Philippines News Agency, Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) director Col. Ruel Tagel stated that no major untoward incidents were recorded during the New Year celebrations as the city welcomed 2026. Tagel attributed this peaceful outcome to strong community cooperation and sustained police operations. He noted that more than 1,000 police personnel were deployed in key areas to ensure public safety and enforce the city's firecracker ban. From December until 6 a.m. on January 1, 2026, police confiscated 13,528 illegal pyrotechnic devices valued at PHP118,755.

Meanwhile, in Tabuk City, Kalinga, a fire broke out around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday at the Bulanao Public Market, where firecrackers were being sold. The fire was reportedly caused by a 'kwitis' that was lit from across the street. Two people were injured, and 20 temporary firecracker stalls, along with the merchandise, were completely burned.
