Riyadh: First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos extended the Philippine government's care and compassion to overseas Filipino mothers, children, and women in distress during her visit to Bahay Kalinga in Riyadh.
According to Philippines News Agency, in a Facebook post on Monday, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said the First Lady visited Bahay Kalinga 1 and 2, where she met with and listened to the stories of 154 women and 70 others, including 28 children, currently under government care. The post noted, "Tinatayang nasa 154 na kababaihan ang nasa pangangalaga ng Bahay Kalinga 1, habang may 70 (42 adults at 28 bata) naman sa Bahay Kalinga 2 (An estimated 154 women are under the care of Bahay Kalinga 1, while 70 (42 adults and 28 children) are in Bahay Kalinga 2)."
The First Lady also distributed luggage, care kits containing milk, diapers, vitamins, and clothes for mothers and children, as well as financial assistance to help them start anew. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) stated that the aid is part of the Marcos administration's goal to ensure that no Filipino is left behind, especially those in distressful and vulnerable situations.
The DMW and OWWA assured that they will continue to work to provide shelter, protection, and reintegration support for Filipinos in distress. OWWA emphasized, "Alam naming may mga kababayan tayong naghihintay pa rin ng tulong, kaya't hindi kami titigil hangga't hindi naipararating ang Serbisyong May Saya sa bawat OFW, saan mang panig ng mundo (We know that there are Filipinos who are still waiting for help, so we will not stop until we bring government service to every OFW, anywhere in the world)."
Araneta-Marcos flew to Riyadh on July 17 and joined the DMW, OWWA, and other relevant government agencies for the Middle East leg of the Serbisyo Caravan, a one-stop government outreach that offers government services, including legal aid, financial support, and welfare counseling to OFWs and their families.
