KUALA LUMPUR, The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested five men suspected of being involved in bribery activities to secure a RM15.3 million oil tanker cleaning contract three years ago. According to sources, the individuals detained are a manager of an oil and gas subsidiary, two former employees of the company, and two contractors. "All the individuals, aged between 30 and 63, were detained at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 8 pm yesterday after their statements were recorded," said a source. Putrajaya Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin allowed the manager and two former employees of the company to be remanded for five days, while the two contractors were remanded for three days starting today, following an application by MACC. MACC senior director (special operations) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman, when contacted, confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects are being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
