Manila: Five aspirants will battle it out for the right to represent the 4th Legislative District of Cavite in the special polls set for August 29. In a statement, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday reported that the last to file her certificate of candidacy was Dasmari±as City Mayor Jennifer Barzaga, mother of expelled Rep. Francisco Barzaga. The other candidates running for the congressional seat are Raul Rex Del Rosario Mangubat, Marvin Opamin Dupal-ag, Leysander Aguilar Ordenes, and Jacinto Bautista Frani Jr.
According to Philippines News Agency, the poll body announced that the election period for the special election will be from July 30 to September 13. During this period, the Comelec stated that it shall be prohibited to carry or transport firearms or other deadly weapons in public places, even if licensed to own or carry them, unless authorized by the poll body. The gun ban shall only be implemented in Dasmari±as City, Cavite.
Furthermore, the campaign period will span from July 30 to August 27, allowing candidates to promote their platforms and connect with voters. As the candidates prepare for the upcoming election, residents of the 4th Legislative District of Cavite will have the opportunity to choose their next representative in a vote that could shape the future of their community.
