ALOR SETAR, One stretch along the Sungai Anak Bukit in Kampung Suka Menanti has become the focus of many people who are armed with nets and prongs to spear fish and big prawns, as the swollen river is teeming with rich pickings like an angler's paradise, due to the floods. A resident, Muhd ??Aizat Adha Salleh, 29, said since last night people have been flocking to the banks of the river with various fishing equipment such as fishing nets and fish prongs to 'harpoon' prawns and lobster. "Last night, people came in droves to the river when the water receded a little to catch prawns and 'ikan mabuk sungai' in the river. "These fish and prawns become hyperactive like 'drunken' because the turbidity of the water causes them to play on the banks of the river and in shallow areas, making them easy prey to catch," he told Bernama here today. According to him, he and his cousin went to the river bank behind his house this morning and managed to catch about a kilogramme (kg) of lobster and several kinds of fish. "The earlier catch has been cooked, my mother made prawn sambal and fried the fish, it's really good," he said. As for Mohd Ikhwan Hafiz Ridzuan, the situation was not only noticed by the villagers in the area, but also outsiders who also seized the opportunity. He said that there were several areas along the river that were invaded by people, including residents from Kampung Chegar and several other villages. "I think tonight many more people will come to catch big prawns, lobsters and fish, I might even catch more later," he said. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
