Manila: Several parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced floods due to heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon, but the water notably subsided in 15 to 30 minutes once the rains stopped, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III explained in a Radyo Pilipinas interview that although some areas experienced gutter-deep flooding, the water levels decreased quickly once the rain ceased. 'May mga areas na nakakakita ng mga pagbaha na hanggang gutter-deep, pero nagsa-subside po kaagad kapag tumigil ang ulan (There are areas experiencing gutter-deep flooding, but the water subsides immediately once the rain stops),' Torre stated.

He further advised the public to exercise patience and caution when encountering flooded streets. 'Kaya ang isang ating gustong i-advise sa ating mga kababayan na kung may makita kayong pagbaha, puwedeng hintay ng konti, 15 to 30 minutes lang ay humuhupa na ang baha natin. Kaya huwag na lang pilitin lumusong (This is why we advise the public who encounter flooded areas to wait a little, some 15 to 30 minutes, for the water to subside. Please don't force your way through the floodwaters),' he added.

In its latest update, the MMDA identified several areas where flooding was reported but noted that all locations remained passable. In Manila, gutter-deep flooding was observed at Roxas Blvd. Pedro Gil Service Road, Roxas Blvd. near the US Embassy, and Taft Ave. - Quirino Ave., Malate. In Para±aque City, floodwaters were recorded at Dr. A Santos Ave.- Canaynay Ave., Dr. A Santos Ave. NB near Para±aque National High School, and Dr A. Santos Ave.-KayTalices. Malabon City also reported flooding at Gov. Pascual Ave. (Sitio 6), which had subsided by 4:40 p.m.
