Manila: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will offer free rides on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) every Wednesday in August for commuters presenting a valid National ID, in celebration of the enactment of Republic Act (RA) 11055, known as the Philippine Identification System Act.
According to Philippines News Agency, the free rides will be available on August 5, 12, 19, and 26, during the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This initiative aims to encourage the use and registration of the National ID among the public.
Commuters can avail of the free service by presenting their physical National ID, Digital ID, or ePhilID in paper format. Additionally, a separate free ride will be offered on September 16, 2026, in observance of Global Identity Day, further promoting the importance of a unified identification system.
This initiative is a collaboration between the DOTr-MRT-3 and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), which is also facilitating National ID registration at the Araneta-Cubao and Taft Avenue stations of the MRT-3. RA 11055, which established the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), is administered by the PSA, aiming to streamline and simplify public and private transactions in the country.
