Manila: The Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO): reminded the public to observe precautionary measures, including handwashing, as a means of protection against the monkeypox (mpox) viral disease.
According to Philippines News Agency, IPHO information officer Irene Duldoco stated in an interview that Antique currently has no mpox cases. However, she emphasized the importance of taking precautionary measures due to the province's proximity to Iloilo, where there is one confirmed mpox case in the province and four laboratory-confirmed along with two suspect cases in Iloilo City.
Duldoco highlighted that Antique±os frequently travel to Iloilo City or province for various transactions, making it essential for them to engage in frequent handwashing and other precautionary actions. She advised individuals to consider home isolation if they suspect having signs and symptoms of mpox, which include fever, painful rash, muscle ache, back pain, and low energy.
Immediate notification to the rural health unit or a health worker is advised for proper medical intervention. Duldoco also urged the public to stay informed about mpox by tuning into programs from the DOH or IPHO through media channels to understand preventive measures better.
