Manila: Canadian Jay Lin Gibson secured a spot in the boys' singles quarterfinals after a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Thailand's Puchit Sukjai at the Coca-Cola Philta International Juniors held at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. As the tournament's top seed, Gibson is set to face sixth seed Koki Nara from Japan, who overcame Filipino John Kendrick Bona with scores of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. According to Philippines News Agency, second seed Hao-Yu Lin and fourth seed Xiao Feng Zhou from Chinese Taipei also advanced to the next round, alongside fifth seed Filipino Miguel Iglupas. Hao-Yu defeated Singapore's Ethan Matthew Koh 6-4, 6-2, setting up a match against Japan's eighth seed Takahiro Kawaguchi, who edged past Thailand's Ryu Kotikula 7-5, 7-6 (3). Zhou outclassed Japan's Shun Wakino with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and will now meet seventh seed Connor McEvoy of Australia, who overwhelmed Filipino Alfonso Javier Infante 6-1, 6-0. Iglupas progressed after beating Korea's Min Seungjun 6-1, 6-0, and is set to face third seed Ren Matsumura, who defeated Thailand's Perawat Sukjai 6-0, 6-0. In the girls' singles category, Korean Park Seojin eliminated Hong Kong's fifth seed Naomi Hagi 7-5, 6-0, advancing to the quarterfinals of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors event. Park is joined by fellow Koreans Oh Jiyun and Choi Soo Young, as well as Chinese Taipei's fourth seed Yu Tsen Ko. Oh, who triumphed in the J60 event in Singapore last January, defeated Indonesia's Shinar Zahra Shukayna Heriyadi Sunggoro 6-1, 6-2. Choi secured a win against Thailand's Pimlaphat Lim 6-2, 6-1, while Yu emerged victorious against China's Du Ruihan with a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 scoreline.
