Gingoog City Reinforces School Safety Plans, Installs Security System

Gingoog city: The local government of Gingoog City reinforced its integrated school safety and security plans on Monday, strengthening coordination with barangays and law enforcement agencies to ensure student protection.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Erick Ca±osa, together with the Local School Board, the Department of Education (DepEd), and law enforcement agencies, said preparedness measures were bolstered through closer coordination with barangays. "We strengthened our coordination and preventive measures to ensure safety for our youth," Ca±osa said in an interview.

The local government also tackled DepEd Memorandum No. 06, Series of 2026, which sets guidelines on enforcing a safe and "motivating" learning environment, as well as Republic Act No. 10627 (Anti-Bullying Act), which calls for a localized anti-bullying policy.

Meanwhile, Ca±osa led the launching of a newly installed security system at Gingoog City Comprehensive High School on Monday. The school is the city's most populous public school, serving thousands of students daily.

The security system is part of the city's broader effort to enhance school safety following recent incidents of school violence nationwide, including the deadly shooting in Tacloban City that prompted calls for tighter security measures in educational institutions.

The initiative also includes the deployment of additional security personnel, regular safety drills, and the activation of school-based emergency response teams in coordination with local disaster risk reduction offices.
