Glitch ‘Resolved Immediately’ in Dumaguete Voters’ Registration

Dumaguete: The first day of voters' registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) here proceeded smoothly, with only one minor glitch, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, City Election Officer Ian Macaraya explained that the issue involved the signature pads of the Voter Registration System's (VRS) machines, which needed replacement. "The system did not detect the signatures of the registrants on the pads, but this is just a temporary setback that was resolved immediately," he stated. The problem was attributed to an outdated driver, which was promptly addressed.

Similar issues were reported in other areas of the province. In Dumaguete City, voters' registration took place at the Comelec office and the Robinsons Place shopping mall. A significant number of registrants were young people, primarily students, eligible to vote for their SK officials.

The Comelec emphasized that only individuals turning 15 on or before December 1, 2025, are eligible to sign up for the BSKE. An initial Comelec tally recorded 264 registrants on the first day in Dumaguete City, with registration concluding at 5 p.m.
