Manila: Network improvements and investments in artificial intelligence (AI) will be among the focuses of Globe Telecom this 2026 to further boost operations and sustain the growth posted in the first three months this year. The company reported a 9 percent rise in core net income in the first quarter this year to PHP4.9 billion, an improvement after a 4 percent drop in net income in 2025 to PHP23.3 billion. It is eyeing around USD1 billion (around PHP59.3 billion) in capital expenditures this year.
According to Philippines News Agency, Globe Telecom President and Chief Executive Officer Carl Raymond Cruz stated during an online briefing that the company will continue to build the network to provide an optimal experience for customers. Cruz emphasized the focus on areas with high impact and mentioned plans to optimize network efficiency while leveraging technologies such as AI and sustainable initiatives to manage costs effectively.
Cruz also addressed the impact of oil-related issues due to the Middle East crisis, highlighting the company's awareness of energy volatility, particularly given the energy-intensive nature of their network. Despite facing some operating cost pressures in the first quarter, Cruz noted that the impact on overall performance has been well-managed.
The company reported a seven percent annual growth in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in the first quarter, which reflects their ability to handle these pressures through disciplined and well-managed costs. Cruz added that Globe continues to monitor costs daily, utilizing a data-led business model.
