Go backs deployment of vaccinators in voting areas

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go is supporting the idea of making Covid-19 jabs available in voting areas to encourage unvaccinated voters to grab the opportunity.

Go, who chairs the Committee on Health and Demography, said in an interview on Tuesday that he had already brought up the idea before the Department of Health (DOH).

“Why not kung kaya naman nilang pagsabayin yung pagboboto? ‘Yung mga vaccinators natin after voting, kung magkaroon kayo ng lugar doon at hindi nakaka-istorbo naman po sa eleksyon, bakit hindi kung makakatulong po ito sa karagdagang numero ng magpapabakuna (Why not if they can do so after voting? If, after voting, our vaccinators will have a place where they won’t disturb the elections, why not)?” he said during his visit to fire victims in Purok I, Barangay Pineda, Pasig City.

DOH Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje previously said in a “Laging Handa” briefing they would consider putting up vaccination sites in polling precincts on May 9.

“Let’s see. Because everybody will be voting in their areas, so we will study if we can set up vaccination sites at precincts,” she said.

The government has fully vaccinated 75 percent of the eligible population or about 67 million Filipinos against Covid-19 as of May 1.

Only 13 million of them have the first booster dose.
