Gomez Requests Courtesy Resignations from ‘Political’ Appointees at PCO

Manila: Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Dave Gomez has directed all 'political' appointees within his office to submit their courtesy resignations. Gomez confirmed this directive to Palace reporters, stating it is part of the 'standard' transition process within the office.

According to Philippines News Agency, Gomez emphasized that the request for resignations aligns with the ongoing transition efforts. He noted that a 'fair, honest-to-goodness, and unbiased' performance audit of the PCO is currently underway. Additionally, Gomez is planning one-on-one meetings with key PCO officials and unit heads to gain a deeper understanding of the organization's operations and performance.

Gomez, who is the fifth PCO secretary under the Marcos administration, took over from former PCO secretary Jay Ruiz. Ruiz has been appointed as a board member of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office. The leadership transition occurred after Gomez was sworn in as the new PCO secretary by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on July 11. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. also administered Gomez's oath of office on Monday.

Gomez has committed to promoting transparency in the government, safeguarding press freedom, and defending the right to free speech. He aims to focus on '3Ps Minus One,' which he defines as 'Programs, Policies minus Politics.'
