Government Affirms Adequate Funding for Earthquake Relief Operations

Manila: Malaca±ang on Monday assured the government has sufficient funds to support emergency response and relief operations following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake off the coast of Sarangani that triggered tsunami warnings in several parts of Mindanao. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has already directed all concerned agencies to immediately respond to the disaster and assist affected communities. She added that government funds remain intact to support rescue and relief operations.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) stated that the Quick Response Funds (QRFs) of all relevant agencies remain available and may be immediately utilized for disaster response and relief efforts. "For the Sarangani earthquake response, existing QRF resources remain available for immediate deployment by the concerned agencies, while the DBM remains prepared to provide the necessary budgetary support as requirements arise," the DBM said.

Earlier, Marcos ordered the immediate mobilization of government agencies after the powerful earthquake struck 32 km west of Maasim, Sarangani, at a depth of 33 km, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. The quake prompted tsunami warnings in several coastal provinces in Mindanao, with authorities urging residents in vulnerable areas to move to higher ground and follow evacuation advisories.
