Manila: The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has teamed up with educational institutions to teach more Filipinos about intellectual property. On the sidelines of the forum 'Leveraging Intellectual Property as an Innovation Enabler and Fuel for Inclusive Economic Growth' in Pasay City on Monday, Director General Teodoro Pascua highlighted IPOPHL's aim to cultivate an IP-centered culture.

According to Philippines News Agency, IPOPHL is looking forward to collaborating with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to enhance understanding of intellectual property among younger generations. Director General Teodoro Pascua emphasized the importance of recognizing intellectual property and creativity from an early age, suggesting that even basic education should include teachings on students' creative potentials alongside academics.

Pascua noted the necessity for a more purposive educational system that nurtures students' creative abilities. This partnership with educational institutions is seen as a step towards achieving this goal.

Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary Allan Gepty underscored the transformative potential of intellectual property, stating that a simple idea could evolve into significant innovations. He emphasized that intellectual property equips people with the knowledge, tools, and opportunities to convert ideas into practical solutions, creativity into business ventures, and innovation into economic value.

Gepty further elaborated that intellectual property serves as a powerful enabler of innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive economic growth. It not only empowers creators and strengthens businesses but also facilitates the transition of ideas from mere imagination to tangible economic contributions. From an international trade perspective, intellectual property is pivotal for fostering a modern, innovation-driven economy.
