Manila: The amount of assistance provided by the national government and its local counterparts to families affected by the restiveness of Mt. Kanlaon has reached PHP172.1 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC detailed the allocation of aid across the Central and Western Visayas regions.
According to Philippines News Agency, the financial support is divided into PHP109.9 million for Central Visayas and PHP62.2 million for Western Visayas. A total of 10,032 families have benefited from this aid, with 7,551 families in Western Visayas and 2,481 families in Central Visayas receiving support. The aid package includes family food packs, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, generator sets, and financial assistance.
Kanlaon's ongoing unrest has impacted 12,285 families residing in 27 barangays across the two regions. Of these, about 3,164 families are still being sheltered in 23 evacuation centers, while an additional 2,408 families are receiving assistance outside these centers.
To address the widespread impact, 57 cities and municipalities have been declared in a state of calamity, comprising 32 towns and cities in Western Visayas and 25 in Central Visayas.
