Manila: Government aid will be extended to the domestic worker who was arrested and subsequently lost her job in Qatar for joining a rally without permit. The 36-year-old mother of two was among the 17 adults and three minors arrested at a Doha resort on March 27.
According to Philippines News Agency, in a news release on Monday, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that financial aid, sourced from the Department's Aksyon (Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo Para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan) Fund, was immediately provided to the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) upon her arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 in Para±aque City on Sunday afternoon.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac stated in the news release, "We shall provide training, reemployment and livelihood assistance as she is interested in the field of culinary arts, and accounting as well." The government support is based on President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to prioritize the welfare and reintegration of OFWs.
The worker sought government assistance through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Migrant Workers Office in Qatar and the Philippine Embassy. Before her employment in Qatar, the OFW had previously worked in Kuwait from 2016 to 2019, and then transferred to Qatar in 2019.
