Manila: The government will enhance the education and training programs for radiologic technologists in the country, as part of its efforts to improve the healthcare system, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said Thursday. This initiative follows a recent meeting with the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) at Malacañan Palace, where discussions centered around improving healthcare access for all Filipinos. According to Philippines News Agency, only three out of 41 examinees passed the June 2024 Special Professional Licensure Examination for Radiologic Technologists, highlighting a pressing need for improved educational standards. A radiologic technologist is a medical professional responsible for performing imaging procedures on patients, capturing images of specific areas of the body using radiographic technology to assess their overall health. Marcos expressed confidence in the potential of private sector support to help the government build an 'efficient and all-encompassing' healthcare system. He al so announced plans for the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to upgrade its benefit packages and digitize key processes to provide 'faster [and] more efficient' services. In September, PhilHealth president and CEO Emmanuel Ledesma Jr. indicated that members could expect another increase in health benefits by the end of the year. This follows a previous 30-percent increase in the coverage rates of most of its benefit packages in February 2024, aimed at reducing out-of-pocket medical expenses for Filipinos.
