Malacañang has suspended classes at all levels and work in government offices in the entire Luzon for Friday due to the continuing onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami). Government agencies involved in disaster preparedness and response as well as delivery of vital services are not covered by the suspension, which was announced Thursday evening by the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES). For private companies, the suspension of work 'is left to the discretion of their respective heads,' the OES said. 'The localized cancellation or suspension of classes and/or work in government offices in other areas may be implemented by their respective Local Chief Executives, pursuant to relevant laws, rules, and regulations,' the OES noted. Kristine made landfall early Thursday morning in Isabela and crossed over Luzon island. The weather bureau said Kristine would likely exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday afternoon. However, it said that there is a developing forecast situation wherein Kristine will be looping over the West Philippine Sea on Sunday and Monday and move eastward or east northwestward towards the general direction of the PAR region. This depends on the behavior of the low pressure area spotted east of northeastern Mindanao, which is expected to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, according to PAGASA.
