Manila: Peter Groseclose showcased his prowess on ice, securing gold and silver medals in the short track speed skating events at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games held at the IWIS International Ice Skating Training Center. The 18-year-old, who is also a 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympian, made an impressive debut in the competition.

According to Philippines News Agency, Groseclose first clinched a silver medal in the men's 1,500-meter event. Using this as motivation, he excelled in the men's 500-meter race, earning a gold medal. Groseclose expressed his determination to perform better in the 500-meter event after his silver medal win in the 1,500-meter.

In the 500-meter race, Groseclose took an early lead and maintained it, finishing with a time of 43.257 seconds. His competitors, Singapore's Ryo Yik Ong and Indonesia's Jeremia Wihardja, finished with times of 43.592 and 43.962 seconds, respectively, securing silver and bronze medals.

During the 1,500-meter event, Groseclose clocked 02:26.207, earning a silver medal. Thailand's Chonlachart Taprom won gold with a time of 02:25.800, while Indonesia's Marva Kayana Firdaus took bronze with a time of 02:26.931. Groseclose noted his strategy errors in the longer race but expressed gratitude for his subsequent gold medal victory.

In addition to Groseclose's achievements, the Philippines speed skating team also earned bronze medals in the men's 5,000-meter and women's 300-meter relay events.
