PETALING JAYA, Local cinema operator Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Taylor's University, through its School of Media and Communication, to collaborate in nurturing future film industry talent. GSC said the partnership would benefit students of the Bachelor of Mass Communication (Hons) (Digital Media Production) programme, providing them with opportunities such as in-depth mentorship, interactive workshops, guest lectures, and screening opportunities for student films at GSC locations. 'As a homegrown brand, GSC has continuously championed local films with its #GSCKeepingitREEL efforts, including co-producing, investing, and advocating for local titles to elevate the local film landscape,' GSC Chief Executive Officer Koh Mei Lee said during the signing ceremony today. The MoU was signed by Koh and Taylor's University Social Sciences and Leisure Management Faculty executive dean, Prof Dr Neethianathan Ari Ragavan. Koh said GSC's support has resulted in loc al titles gaining positive reception in recent years. 'As such, through our collaborative partnership with Taylor's University, GSC remains committed to empowering and uplifting the pool of potential talents who represent the future of our local movie industry through the #GSCKeepingitREEL programme,' she said. Neethianathan meanwhile said that the partnership underscored the university's commitment to integrating academic knowledge with industry exposure, equipping students with both creative and entrepreneurial skills. 'Through this collaboration, both Taylor's University and GSC have a shared vision aimed at cultivating a new generation of media professionals who are both innovative and financially-savvy, prepared to lead and shape the future of the film industry," he added.
