Guimaras Mangoes Arrive in Spain as PH Tests European Market

Madrid: The famous sweet mangoes of Guimaras Island have landed in Spain as part of the Philippines' 100-kg test shipment for the large European market.

According to Philippines News Agency, this initiative aims to connect Philippine farmers and SMEs (small and medium enterprises) more directly with international markets and create new export pathways for high-value agricultural products. The Philippine Embassy in Spain expressed its delight as Guimaras Mangoes arrived in Madrid, highlighting the excellence, heritage, and dedication embodied in this product.

Guimaras mangoes, cultivated in the island province of Guimaras and the first registered Geographical Indication (GI) product of the Philippines, are known for their distinctive sweetness, aroma, and flavor. This shipment marks the first journey of Guimaras mangoes to Europe and the first export to Europe by the enterprise Guimaras Wonder Farms.

Philippine Ambassador to Spain Philippe Lhuillier emphasized the importance of introducing premium Philippine products to European markets, which creates opportunities for exporters, farmers, entrepreneurs, and local communities. He expressed hope that this initiative would open doors for future partnerships and strengthen appreciation for Philippine agricultural products.

The European journey of the Guimaras mangoes commenced in Brussels, Belgium, and continued across key European cities, including The Hague, Paris, Berlin, and Madrid. The initiative is led by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Supply Chain and Logistics Group, DTI-Guimaras, the provincial government of Guimaras, Guimaras Wonder Farms, logistics partners, and Philippine Embassies and Trade Offices across Europe.
