Midsayap: Police authorities are hunting two men who attempted but failed to assassinate a municipal councilor from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Monday, officials said Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Capt. Sammy Clarito, deputy police chief of Midsayap, stated that investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage that captured the facial features of one of the two men involved in the shooting of Councilor Al-Hamidie Mohamad. Mohamad, aged 42, is a member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Nabalawag, one of the towns in the BARMM Special Geographic Area.
Clarito reported that Mohamad had just arrived in front of a hardware store and was about to exit his Toyota Fortuner when one of the two men, riding in tandem on a motorbike, approached and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Police recovered nine empty shells from a caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene, which is located along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion 8, Midsayap, North Cotabato.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Mohamad, the No. 1 town councilor, stated that he has no known enemies, explaining his lack of a police escort.
