Laguindingan: Providing halal lanes in compliance with government regulations will be part of Aboitiz InfraCapital's (AIC) expansion projects for Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) in Misamis Oriental.

According to Philippines News Agency, the current merchants inside LIA sell pork-free food to passengers, but the establishments have yet to be halal-certified. At a press briefing on Friday, Christine Villanueva, head of the AIC Strategy and Communications, said the compliance is in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and the Department of Trade and Industry. "We just had discussions with the agencies to help with halal certifications and we are also urging commercial partners to become halal-certified," she said.

Halal certification is an official guarantee that products or services are permissible under Islamic law. It verifies that items are free from forbidden (haram) ingredients, such as pork and alcohol, and are prepared in accordance with strict hygiene and ethical standards. The certification is institutionalized under Republic Act 10817 or the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Act.

Since AIC's takeover of operations in 2025, LIA has served 2.17 million passengers.
