Pasay city: Accountability among stakeholders and continuous learning through data-driven analysis are vital in implementing the women, peace, and security (WPS) agenda. Philippine Commission on Women chair Ermelita Valdeavilla emphasized that this could be achieved with the Indicator Handbook for the Philippine Action Plan on WPS 2023 to 2033. "The new plan and its indicators help us become effective custodians of the NAP (national action plan), WPS implementation process," she stated during the launch of the handbook held at the Philippine International Convention Center. According to Philippines News Agency, the new MEAL (monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning) plan and indicators will employ measures that inform stakeholders of their performance strengths and weaknesses, rather than just progress achieved. This approach will guide the National Steering Committee on WPS (NSCWPS) in making informed decisions and taking appropriate actions. The MEAL plan is designed to generate data and statis tics from women, transforming their actions, ideas, and opinions into evidence-based facts. The enhanced monitoring plan aims to enable the NSCWPS to continuously track and assess the progress of WPS agenda implementation. This ensures that interventions are inclusive and responsive to the unique needs of women and girls in conflict-affected communities. Valdeavilla further explained that as the WPS agenda advances, the initiatives and milestones will be reflected in national reports submitted for international stocktaking. The launch of the handbook is part of the three-day International Conference on Women, Peace and Security 2024. This conference provides a platform for assessing the progress of the WPS agenda and addressing current challenges to women's significant participation in peace and security.
