Ilocos norte: The State of Hawaii is preparing to establish its first foreign office in Ilocos Norte province, aiming to enhance trade and investment while strengthening global partnerships with Ilocanos. Fresh from an official visit to Hawaii and California, Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos confirmed this initiative, noting that it is a unique move for a U.S. state to set up an office outside its federal jurisdiction.
According to Philippines News Agency, the planned office, named the State of Hawaii Office in the Philippines-Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, will be located at the newly constructed, government-owned Dap-ayan Center in the province, near the Ilocos Norte Capitol. Governor Araneta-Marcos expressed optimism about the potential progress that could arise from expanded international partnerships and enhanced cooperation in trade, workforce development, and investment.
The new office is being established in collaboration with the provincial government, and the formal inauguration is expected to be attended by Hawaii Governor Josh Green. Soya Cheng-Bueno, chief of Ilocos Norte's investment office, highlighted the strong demand in Hawaii for Ilocos' fresh and processed foods, emphasizing the priority of expanding market access for local micro, small, and medium enterprises.
As this development unfolds, the Ilocos Norte government continues to advocate for international linkages that support key sectors, broaden global cooperation, and position the province as a competitive hub for trade, tourism, and innovation. Through sustained engagement with international partners, the province aims to promote inclusive growth, workforce development, and broader global opportunities for Ilocanos.
