Manila: The House of Representatives, led by Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III and House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander 'Sandro' Marcos, has introduced a 'rescue-buy' initiative aimed at assisting farmers from the Cordilleras in managing plunging vegetable prices, oversupply, and rising fuel costs. This initiative, spearheaded by KM Ngayon Na Party-list Rep. Kenneth Paolo Tereng, is taking place from May 19-20 at the North Wing Lobby of the House of Representatives, extending to the flagpole area.

According to Philippines News Agency, the program features fresh cabbage sold at PHP200 per 10 kilos, or PHP20 per kilo, encouraging lawmakers, House employees, and visitors to directly support local farmers while facilitating the movement of excess produce that might otherwise go to waste. Majority Leader Marcos emphasized that the initiative, through the KM Ngayon Na Party-list, demonstrates the House leadership's commitment to standing with farmers during challenging times.

Marcos highlighted the tireless efforts of farmers to feed the nation, despite suffering significant losses due to price collapses caused by oversupply and high transport costs. He stated that the rescue-buy initiative is a simple yet meaningful way to alleviate their burden. The program not only involves selling vegetables but also serves as a concrete act of solidarity with the agriculture sector.

Marcos further urged the public to continue supporting local agricultural products and initiatives that shield farmers from financial losses. He remarked that aiding farmers also contributes to the country's food security, emphasizing that while the initiative may be a small step, it significantly helps those in the agriculture sector.

The initiative carries the message: 'Let's stand with our farmers - buy cabbage, support their livelihood, and make a difference.'
