Manila: A cabinet-level committee has backed key enhancements to a major vocational training project, aiming to make it easier for Filipinos to find jobs after graduation.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Finance (DOF) announced on Friday that the Investment Coordination Committee-Cabinet Committee (ICC-CC) recommended the approval of adjustments to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority's program. The DOF said the changes to the Supporting Innovation in the Philippine Technical and Vocational Education and Training System (SIPTVETS) Project seek to strengthen the country's technical and vocational learning programs and training system.

The project aims to improve the employability of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates and expand access to quality TVET programs. The approved adjustments include the relocation of six host institutions to more efficient sites and adding a new Regional TVET Innovation Centers in the Negros Island Region, bringing total coverage to 18 centers.

'The government's investment in technical and vocational education is an investment on the Filipino people. By expanding access to quality training, modern facilities, and industry-relevant skills, we are helping more Filipinos build better opportunities for themselves and their families,' ICC-CC chair and Finance Secretary Frederick Go said.

Aside from the vocational program, the ICC-CC also recommended adjustments to two major infrastructure developments: the North-South Commuter Railway Project and the Panglao-Tagbilaran City Offshore Bridge Connector Project. All these recommendations will now be elevated to the Economy and Development Council, chaired by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., for final approval before implementation.
