The hague: The International Criminal Court (ICC) was hit by a "sophisticated" and "targeted" cybersecurity attack, according to a statement. "Late last week, the International Criminal Court ('ICC' or 'the Court') detected a new, sophisticated and targeted cybersecurity incident, which has now been contained," it said Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, following a similar attack in 2023, the ICC stated that the incident was "swiftly discovered, confirmed and contained," while an analysis is ongoing to "mitigate any effects of the incident." The Court emphasized the importance of informing the public and its States Parties about such incidents and efforts to address them. It also called for continued support to ensure the Court's capacity to implement its critical mandate of justice and accountability, which is a shared responsibility of all States Parties.
The German Foreign Ministry has expressed "deep concern" about the incident. "The international legal order and its institutions are a global civilizational success. Institutions such as the International Criminal Courts must not be undermined by threats or attacks," it conveyed Tuesday on X.
