Ilocos Norte Expands Water Infrastructure to Combat Shortages

Pasuquin:Ilocos Norte More water wells are being installed in various areas of Ilocos Norte to help address water shortages and ensure a more reliable supply for local communities.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ilocos Norte Water District General Manager John Teodoro confirmed this in an interview, reporting that a drilling project is ongoing in Barangay 2, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte. This initiative aims to augment existing water sources and improve water availability in the towns of Pasuquin and nearby Bacarra.

A total of PHP2 million has been allotted for the construction of two water wells in the area. In addition, as the province prepares for prolonged dry conditions and the possible impact of a strong El Niño, a bigger pipe will be installed to replace an existing one to help solve water shortages in the towns of Badoc and Pinili. Bidding for the project is ongoing, and it is expected to be completed within this year.

The additional wells are expected to provide alternative sources of water for households and other consumers affected by limited supply. This move underscores the importance of strengthening water infrastructure and developing sustainable water sources to meet the growing needs of communities in the province.

As water security becomes increasingly important amid changing climate conditions, the installation of additional wells is anticipated to help cushion the impact of water shortages and strengthen the province's preparedness for prolonged dry spells, Teodoro said. He also reiterated to consumers the importance of saving water, a valuable resource for healthy living.
