Laoag city: The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in Ilocos Norte is advising residents to visit cemeteries and memorial parks early or postpone it until Typhoon Leon dissipates. PDRRMC head Marcell Tabije, in a media interview Thursday, said extra precaution must be observed in this year's observance of 'Undas' or the All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day as several public cemeteries and memorial parks here are also prone to flooding and landslides. According to Philippines News Agency, the PDRRMC, along with the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Philippine Marines, Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Air Force, and other volunteers, have set up visitors' assistance centers near memorial gardens and cemeteries to ensure the safe and orderly observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day on November 1-2. Senior fire officer Glenn Cabias stated that they will be present to assist cemetery goers until November 2, and his team was seen setting up their First Aid Assistance Team, complete with a fire truck, near the public cemetery in the city. Cabias noted that at least six Bureau of Fire Protection personnel form one team, and they are deployed in various parts of the province to respond in case of emergency. Ahead of the Undas celebration, public and private cemeteries in the province have been cleaned up, but some garbage left has yet to be collected or disposed of due to inclement weather. Residents are also reminded to always take necessary precautions when leaving their homes.
