Ilocos Norte School Year Commences Smoothly: DepEd Reports

Ilocos Norte: The opening of classes in the 364 public elementary and high schools in Ilocos Norte has been smooth, based on the monitoring of the Department of Education (DepEd).

According to Philippines News Agency, Valerie Talamayan, designated information officer of DepEd Schools Division of Ilocos Norte, confirmed in a phone interview that the start of the academic year has been peaceful and successful. The collaborative efforts of local government units, barangay officials, and the PTA (parents and teachers association) were instrumental in ensuring a smooth beginning.

As of Monday morning, the Schools Division of Ilocos Norte reported that 67,899 learners were enrolled out of the 85,133 target enrolment. Talamayan noted that the number is expected to increase as enrolment continues until Friday.

At Eladio V. Barangan Memorial Elementary School in San Nicolas town, Dr. Rolen Oracion, the school principal, shared that learners were welcomed with a song-and-dance performance by teachers. Students were also oriented on school rules and policies, and selected beneficiaries received school supplies and used clothes from family sponsors in Hawaii, United States. "We look forward to a year filled with learning, creativity, and achievement," Oracion stated.

Similarly, Noralyn Dela Cruz, school principal of Laoag Central Elementary School, reported that the opening day went smoothly. Teachers at Salanap Elementary School in Pinili town expressed enthusiasm as they resumed interactive classroom discussions immediately after the flag-raising ceremony and a simple welcome program. Aileen Rambaud, the school principal, expressed gratitude towards parents and community partners for their support and generosity.
