Iloilo city: Iloilo City declared a state of calamity following the approval of its city council on Wednesday. Together with the declaration, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) authorized the use of PHP21.5 million in quick response funds intended for the development of relocation sites in Barangays West Haboghabog and San Juan at PHP20 million; food assistance for displaced families worth PHP1.4 million; and the procurement of seeds for affected farmers amounting to PHP100,000.
According to Philippines News Agency, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) officer Donna Magno explained before the city council that the affected individuals are beyond the threshold set by the National DRRMC guidelines. One of the criteria for declaring a state of emergency is that at least 15 percent of the forecast affected population, based on science-based projections, must require emergency assistance.
Magno stated that the number of individuals exposed to the effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising (international name Wipha), Dante (Francisco), and Emong (Co-May) in 72 flood-prone barangays and 19 barangays at risk of storm surge was at 214,304. 'The July 28 2 p.m. DROMIC (Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center) of CSWDO (City Social Welfare and Development Office) data showed that the total number of affected population from 72 flood-prone barangays and 19 barangays at risk of storm surge was 56,881 individuals, which have gone beyond the threshold,' she said.
